People Visit Denver and Miss Places Like This🩵

Hey Reader!

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm a sucker for a turquoise lake hike—but it's even better when it's surrounded by colorful mountains.

That’s exactly what you get at Lake Chihuahua, an underrated yet stunning alpine lake tucked away in Colorado’s high country, less than 2 hours from Denver. I didn’t include it in my “Best Turquoise Lakes” previous roundup—not because it didn’t earn a spot, but because it amazed me so much that I felt deserved its own feature.

This trail has:
✅ Eye-popping sapphire blue water
✅ Wildflower meadows in July (hello, columbines 💜)
✅ Dramatic mountain backdrops
✅ A 7-mile round trip that’s totally doable as a half-day hike
Sound of the Music vibes, but make it Rocky Mountain

It’s still a bit of a hidden gem—but make sure you get an early start to snag a parking spot. I just published a full blog post with everything you need to know: trailhead tips, what to expect, what to pack, and photos that’ll have you reaching for your boots.

Even if you’re not in Colorado this summer, add this one to your hiking bucket list for your next trip through the Denver–Silverthorne area. Or just scroll for the pretty pics—I won’t judge😉
