If you haven't noticed by now, I'm a sucker for a turquoise lake hike—but it's even better when it's surrounded by colorful mountains.

That’s exactly what you get at Lake Chihuahua, an underrated yet stunning alpine lake tucked away in Colorado’s high country, less than 2 hours from Denver. I didn’t include it in my “Best Turquoise Lakes” previous roundup—not because it didn’t earn a spot, but because it amazed me so much that I felt deserved its own feature.

This trail has:
✅ Eye-popping sapphire blue water
✅ Wildflower meadows in July (hello, columbines 💜)​
✅ Dramatic mountain backdrops
✅ A 7-mile round trip that’s totally doable as a half-day hike
✅ Sound of the Music vibes, but make it Rocky Mountain
